Norton Tablet Security

Editor's Note: Product not yet reviewed by PCMag Editors.

Symantec today announced the release of Norton Tablet Security ($39.99/year), which offers antitheft and antivirus/antimalware protection for Android tablets. This product aims to protect both the device itself and the user's privacy.

Like Kaspersky Tablet Security, Norton Mobile Security Lite, Webroot Mobile Security for Android, and many others, Norton Tablet Security scans all files that enter the device. It can also perform an on-demand scan of files and apps already present.

The Norton Safe Web site reputation filter protects users of Norton Internet Security 2012. Now Android tablet users get the same protection. When users accidentally attempt to access fraudulent or malicious websites, Norton Safe Web prevents the connection and keeps them out of danger.

Can't find your tablet? Think maybe someone snaffled it from your backpack at the bus stop? Norton Tablet Security can help. By logging in to a Web portal you can view the device's recent locations on a map. If you're sure the device is lost or stolen you can lock it to keep strangers from accessing your data. An optional "device lost" message can provide contact information, so the finder can arrange to return the device.

The "Sneek Peek" feature can snap a photo using the front-facing camera and upload the photo to Symantec's anti-theft site. This gives you a chance to see exactly who's using your missing tablet. Norton Tablet Security is available from "select US and regional retailers" for an MSRP of $39.99/year.
