Trish Bendix: AfterEllen.com's Best Lesbian Week Ever: June 22-29

AfterEllen.com is Logo's site for lesbians and bisexual women in entertainment and media, which means we pride ourselves on knowing all kinds of Sapphic pop-culture facts. Each week we'll share some of the best tidbits on The Huffington Post in our new series, "Best Lesbian Week Ever."

Here's who and what was on our raging gay radar this week.

Naya Rivera is sexy and also hot: The Glee actress appeared as a mentor on the "sexuality" episode of The Glee Project this week and was called "the most sexually confident character" on the show. She also topped our very own AfterEllen.com Hot 100 for the second year in a row. Gay-for-pay looks good on her!

Ellen and Portia are hot times two: Ellen and Portia are on PETA's list of hottest vagitarians vegetarians. The lovebirds are also on the AfterEllen Hot List, which makes sense considering we're named after one of them and all.

Jamaican me happy: Singer Diana King came out as a lesbian on her Facebook page this week. She expressed her happiness in being honest and open but also her fears about her home of Jamaica's fierce anti-gay stance. Apparently Diana once sang on the Notorious B.I.G. track "Respect." Hopefully Jamaicans will listen to the lyrics: "Me holla respect, to all the con mon dem / Con men alone, keep con mine friend fire one, feel all the beef on a them / in fam alone keep in fam my friend." OK?!

You're a mean one, Ms. Lynch: Jane Lynch will emcee the Comedy Central roast of Roseanne Barr in August. She'll have to channel her inner Sue Sylvester for such a mean-spirited event. Roseanne can dish it out, though, so she should be able to take it.

Hannah Montana and Katniss Everdeen K-I-S-S-I-N-G: Rumor has it Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Lawrence had an affair on the set of The Hunger Games. Considering the link there is Miley's fianc? and Jennifer's co-star Liam Hemsworth, we're glad the rumor isn't "threesome." We'd also be OK if it were true.

Pixar's pretty little lezzy?: Brave character Merida may or may not be a lesbian. If this is all a ploy to get lesbians to the theater, it's creepy.

Snacks on snacks on snacks: Oreos, Doritos, Pop-Tarts, and Lucky Charms all went rainbow this month for Pride. Homophobes on Facebook got angry and pledged never to ask their moms to buy the junk food for them again. Meanwhile, we get all the Oreos!

Marijuana Chemical May Fight Brain Cancer | Orange County ...

marijuana_cancer_tx.jpg?April 1, 2009 ? The active chemical in?marijuana?promotes the death of?brain cancer?cells by essentially helping them feed upon themselves, researchers in Spain report.

Guillermo Velasco and colleagues at Complutense University in Spain have found that the active ingredient in marijuana, THC, causes brain?cancer?cells to undergo a process called autophagy. Autophagy is the breakdown of a cell that occurs when the cell essentially self-digests.

The team discovered that cannabinoids such as THC had anticancer effects in mice with human brain cancer cells and people with?brain tumors. When mice with the human brain cancer cells received the THC, the tumor growth shrank.

Two patients enrolled in a clinical trial received THC directly to the brain as an experimental treatment for recurrent?glioblastoma multiforme, a highly aggressive brain tumor. ?Biopsies taken before and after treatment helped track their progress.? After receiving the THC, there was evidence of increased autophagy activity.

The findings appear in the April 1 issue of the?Journal of Clinical Investigation.

The patients did not have any toxic effects from the treatment. Previous studies of THC for the treatment of cancer have also found the therapy to be well tolerated, according to background information in journal article.

Study authors say their findings could lead to new strategies for preventing tumor growth.

Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America adds full testing capability for

Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America adds full testing capability for start-stop micro-hybrid systems

Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America, Inc. (MEAA) has completed construction of a testing lab for the growing start-stop micro-hybrid systems market. In the new lab, located at its Northville, Mich., research and development center, Mitsubishi Electric will be able to test as many as 10 engines simultaneously, ranging from one liter to 15 liters, for both automotive and heavy-duty/off-road applications.

The lab can test multiple fuel types, including gasoline and diesel, 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

As with any new technology, having a testing facility close to where products are being developed is important for our customers who are working on these start-stop systems whose number in the market place are growing. This new lab for North American customers allows us to conduct multiple tests with many different OEM requirements.

This lab helps us expand our global testing capabilities by using the exact same equipment that is available at our test and development facility in Japan, ensuring consistency in approach while eliminating potential testing discrepancies.

?Clint McDermott, manager of research and development, Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America

Start-stop systems are designed to automatically shut down the engine when the vehicle is stopped, such as at a light or in heavy traffic, and seamlessly restart the engine immediately when accelerating from a stopped position. This reduces the amount of time the engine spends idling, cuts fuel consumption by up to 10% and reduces tail pipe emissions.

Starters for new automotive start-stop systems must be durable and robust, requiring more than 300,000 starts compared to approximately 30,000 for a traditional starter. As a result, it takes longer to complete the testing on these systems, which makes testing 24/7 on 10 different stations advantageous.

Mitsubishi Electric?s new lab will run these start-stop systems beyond their designed limits to ensure that they effectively meet the durability, reliability and structural integrity required. New test controllers at each of the 10 stations incorporate integrated feedback and recording, and can handle complex start patterns.

Mitsubishi Electric makes the starters for the start-stop systems and provides system design support in collaboration with OEM customers.

Save Money With These Real Estate Buying Tips | Boca Raton Real ...

Don?t start searching for a house until you have a mortgage prequalification letter from the bank in hand. One main reason to do this is to make sure you are searching for a home that fits within your budget. Loans can take a long time to get, and you will not want to sit around and wait any longer.

Before buying a home, it is important for you to research the neighborhood thoroughly. This is a long-term investment, so make sure that you feel comfortable with the area. You have to know all you can about the area you plan to move to in order to know what to expect if you live there.

When you select an agent to assist you in finding a new home, question them on the amount of time they?ve been in the area. If they haven?t been on the job or in the area for that long then they won?t be as up to speed on local restrictions, roads, and schools as someone else would. Ideally, look for an agent who has lived in the area for at least 10 years.

Once you have real estate, you can increase your investment by simply completing some repairs or remodeling projects. The value of your property will go up quickly. The increase in value can sometimes be substantially more than your investment.

Any property near a busy road or freeway will earn less rent. You may be tempted to purchase these homes, but there is a reason that they are cheaper. You might be fine with the noise that comes with this, however, it will make it hard for you to sell the house once the time comes.

This is the perfect time to turn to real estate as an investment. Property values are low due to a recent fall in the housing market. If you?ve always dreamed of owning a home, now is the time to buy. The housing market will rebound, and you will see profits from your investment.

When deciding to buy real estate, always take into account your goals. Consider whether you have long term or short term goals. If the investment that you?re considering doesn?t fit in with t he goals that you?ve set, don?t do it. For a number of reasons, many real estate investors don?t focus on meeting their needs, and end up losing their investment.

Have your Realtor provide you with a checklist. A good Realtor will be able to give you a list that covers the different steps of a transaction, from finding a home to getting approved for your mortgage. The checklist allows all necessary parties to make sure everything is in order when buying a home.

If you are considering purchasing a property, enlist the services of a professional inspector. Even though it will cost you to hire someone to do this, do not try to get a relative or friend to do this for you. If you do not use a professional then you may have little recourse if something is missed during the inspection.

As you embark on your home buying adventure, you?ll probably appreciate the guidance of a good real estate agent. Be sure to find a trustworthy real estate agent. Look for an agent with a lot of experience and solid references. Be certain to study up on him or her, and find someone that will always keep you in mind.

Make sure that you obtain a home warranty. When purchasing a new home, either from the builder, or an older home from the previous owner, ask for a warranty. The builder should be willing to back up his or her workmanship for at least several years. People who previously owned the home should want to buy a warranty to help you with any repairs that may spring up.

If you are planning to move to another area, go on the Internet to research the neighborhood in which the property is located. Some areas may have more information that others available, but at the very least, you can find certain information. Look at things like average salaries, unemployment levels and travel times. See if the place is worker friendly and if you can make the area a viable place to build a career.

You should buy insurance before you start moving in everything and transforming your house into your new home. If you put off buying insurance, you?ll be sorry if there is an unpredictable act of nature that causes irreparable harm.

Remember that a minimum down payment is required, and you should be certain that you have it. If you don?t, you will likely have to pay private mortgage insurance, or PMI. This can add a lot of money to your monthly costs to show your bank the mortgage is able to get paid.

If you are going to be starting a new business, before you purchase your building, make sure that the location is in a viable and relatively safe neighborhood. Starting a new business in an area of high crime and dilapidated buildings will not win you many customers. Check with local real estate agents to learn the best location for setting up a business.

For rental properties, clarify issues like yard maintenance and landscaping services before the lease is signed. Sometimes rentals require that you handle it yourself, or for you to hire a gardener or yard person. However, this service is included with some rentals, with the cost of it already incorporated into the rent.

Before you start shopping for a new house, take a look at what?s in your credit report. When you get the credit, examine it and repair any errors you find. Being certain that your credit history is correct and not damaged will help you to secure a better mortgage rate.

Most home buyers don?t realize that buying a house is so complicated. Make use of this advice before you buy.

House rejects bid to slash rural airline subsidies

(AP) ? The House has turned back an attempt by a tea party-backed GOP conservative to slash taxpayer subsidies for air service to isolated smaller cities and towns that can cost hundreds of dollars a ticket.

The 238-164 vote late Tuesday killed a bid by Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif., to slash the Essential Air Service program, which subsidizes flights to 120 communities in 35 states in the continental U.S. and Puerto Rico and 43 towns in Alaska.

The vote came as the House debated a $107 billion transportation spending bill for the budget year beginning Oct. 1.

Republicans controlling the House had voted to eliminate the oft-criticized program last year while they considered renewing federal aviation programs, but a coalition of Democrats and Republicans representing rural America reversed the move in the Senate.

Despite modest changes to the program enacted earlier this year, its budget now would reach a new high ? to $214 million ? under Tuesday's legislation. McClintock's amendment would have eliminated $114 million in direct taxpayer subsidies; he was blocked under House rules from attacking $100 million in subsidies automatically financed by "overflight" fees paid by aircraft that fly over the U.S. but don't take off or land here.

"This is about the easiest choice the House could possibly make, to put an end to the so-called Essential Air Service that lavishly subsidizes some of the least essential air services in the country," McClintock said. "Rural life has both great advantages and disadvantages, and it is not the job of hardworking taxpayers who choose to live elsewhere to level out the differences."

The program awards contracts, usually worth between $1 million and $2 million a year, to subsidize airlines that serve airports such as Altoona, Pa., Paducah, Ky., and Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Such subsidies can be quite modest, but can reach hundreds of dollars each way on a round-trip ticket from places like Ironwood in Michigan's Upper Peninsula or several towns in Montana.

The changes enacted earlier require that subsidized routes must average at least 10 passengers a day if they are to be renewed when current contracts are up, and new communities are blocked from receiving the subsidies. Last year, Congress prohibited subsidies from exceeding $1,000 a passenger. The savings from such steps will take a while to take hold but are likely to prove modest.

Supporters of the subsidies say having access to air service is crucial to the economies of rural towns.

"This program plays a key role in the economic development in many rural communities by ensuring that air service continues," said Rep. Tom Latham, R-Iowa.

In fact, the wide reach of the program contributes to the sweeping support it gets, both from Democrats but also from conservative Republicans who suspend their anti-big-government rhetoric when their districts are affected.

US futures head lower, Spain seeks help for banks

NEW YORK (AP) ? U.S. stock futures slid Monday, as did global markets, with Spain requesting help for its teetering banks.

Dow Jones industrial average futures tumbled 100 points to 12,468. Standard & Poor's 500 futures fell 11.8 points to 1,315 and Nasdaq futures gave up 18.5 points to 2,555.

Spain isn't saying how much of the $125 billion made available by the European Union that it will need.

The request comes just ahead of a critical economic summit in Brussels and markets have exhibited little faith that Europe will act quickly to address countries most at risk.

Germany's finance minister has already rejected calls from President Barack Obama for Europe to move faster in containing its debt crisis. Wolfgang Schaeuble suggested that Obama get the American deficit under control instead.

"People are always very quick at giving others advice," Schaeuble told public broadcaster ZDF in an interview late Sunday.

Shares of European banks like Spain's Banco Santander SA and Deutsche Bank AG fell sharply and investors distanced themselves from U.S. banking stocks as well in premarket trading, with shares of all major banks heading lower.

"Anemic credit demand, a flattening yield curve and a near-hostile regulatory environment appear to have little significance to investors presently as bank stocks are being driven by the European debt crisis and the impact of quantitative easing on interest rates," Stifel, Nicolaus & Co. said Monday. "Eventually, company fundamentals will matter again, but not today."

The U.S. Commerce Department reports new home sales figures for May after the market opens.

Economists expect that sales rose to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 346,000 in May, up 0.9 percent from the April reading, according to a survey by FactSet.

Though new homes represent less than 20 percent of the housing market, they have an enormous impact on the economy. Each home built creates an average of three jobs for a year and generates about $90,000 in tax revenue, according to statistics compiled by the National Association of Home Builders.

However, people are still having difficulty qualifying home loans and many can't afford the large down payments required by banks.

The report is due at 10 a.m. Eastern time on Monday.

A federal police officer lifts a strip of crime scene barrier tape, as he leaves a marked-off area of the Mexico City's International Airport, where a shooting occurred around the food court at Terminal 2, Monday, June 25, 2012. Two officers died at the scene and another died later of his wounds at a local hospital. (AP Photo/Alexandre Meneghini)

(AP) ? From cash in chili pepper cans to cocaine in cardboard boxes, Mexico City's international airport has long been considered the capital's main transport hub for drugs and other contraband that seem to move as smoothly as any cargo and usually with no fuss for passengers.

A deadly shootout among federal police on Monday changed that, drawing attention to a darker side of the country's premier airport generally considered safe and efficient in its handling of more than 27 million passengers and 400,000 tons of cargo a year.

Tourists passing Tuesday through the modern Terminal 2, where the shooting occurred, seemed unfazed. But airport workers in the building, with giant walls of white concrete perforated with thousands of decorative holes, said the fatal shooting had shattered their sense of safety.

"I couldn't believe it because there was so much security," said Maria Eugenia Cruz, 52, who has worked as a custodian for five months but was on her day off when the shooting occurred. "I'm afraid of another shootout."

Two federal police officers suspected of working for drug traffickers opened fire on fellow officers in a crowded food court Monday, killing three policemen as panicked witnesses dove for cover.

The slain officers were on an anti-narcotics mission as they sought to catch the suspected criminals in the act of drug trafficking, said a federal police official who wasn't authorized to speak on the record. A police statement said the suspects, who were identified in surveillance camera video, were involved in a small-time drug ring. They remain at large.

"It was a huge error to try to capture people inside an airport because it's a sensitive area," said security expert Raul Benitez at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. "It can cause a tremendous international scandal that hurts the image of the police and the airport."

Cartels are known to pay off police, cargo companies, security firms and even pilots and flight attendants to carry drugs and money, including more than $1 million packed into food cans and more than half a ton of cocaine in 13 cardboard boxes with tape bearing the logo of Mexicana Airlines.

Last year, customs agents found $2.5 million rolled up in spools of telephone cable headed for Venezuela, and an Aeromexico pilot was stopped in Madrid carrying 90 pounds of cocaine. That was several months after three Aeromexico flight attendants were caught in the Madrid airport with 300 pounds of cocaine in their luggage, a case that also saw the arrests of private security company employees operating the security checkpoints in Mexico City's airport.

In 2008, federal police chief Edgar Millan was gunned down inside his Mexico City home possibly in retaliation for investigating drug trafficking at the airport. The previous year, the severed heads of three employees of a customs brokerage firm were found near the airport and in the nearby state of Mexico. The decapitations were apparently retaliation for the seizure of a half-ton of Colombian cocaine at the airport, officials said at the time.

Benitez said Mexico's main airport has, in fact, become an alternative route for drugs from Colombia, Peru and Ecuador headed to Europe, while cash comes in from the United States.

It's the same problem in many international airports. U.S. federal agents swept through Puerto Rico's largest airport earlier this month, arresting dozens of baggage handlers, airline workers and others suspected of smuggling millions of dollars' worth of cocaine aboard commercial flights for at least a decade. Airline workers have been arrested in international smuggling operations involving airports in Detroit, Houston and New York, to name a few in the U.S.

Monday's shooting added another deadly chapter to the Mexico City airport's problems. The federal Public Safety Department said the slain agents were taking part in an 18-month investigation into corrupt federal and local officials who were part of a cocaine trafficking ring. The operation has seized 648 pounds (294 kilograms) of cocaine at the airport.

Mexico's customs agency said it doesn't keep a running total of all confiscations at the airport.

The police official said the wanted officers may have once belonged to the federal highway police, a separate agency that was absorbed into general federal forces. While Mexico has dramatically expanded its federal police force with newly trained and vetted officers, some veterans of earlier forces still work under the old corrupt system in which officers routinely collaborate with criminal organizations.

Despite Monday's violence, U.S. Embassy officials said they have no plans to issue a separate travel warning for the airport, aside from their standing recommendations for Mexico.

Tourists passing through Terminal 2 on Tuesday also said they weren't worried, at least not yet.

Mario and Luisa Ortiz, of Argentina, said they vacation in Mexico every year and were on their way to the beach resort of Puerto Vallarta.

Centennial Potato Plot helping Presque Isle hospital celebrate ...

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine ? A unique project is under way in Aroostook County to illustrate how a 100-year-old hospital took root in the area.

Officials from The Aroostook Medical Center, Cavendish Produce and Northeast Packaging Company gathered in a Presque Isle potato field early Monday to officially dedicate the TAMC Centennial Potato Plot.

The two-acre section of a field on U.S. Route 1 between Presque Isle and Caribou celebrates the hospital and its ties to agriculture.

According to hospital officials, the idea for what is now TAMC was envisioned by Frank White, an attorney, in 1908. During that time, he made frequent trips to outlying farms and neighboring smaller communities by horse and wagon, soliciting donations.

Through the efforts of White and other community leaders, Presque Isle General Hospital was incorporated on April 8, 1912. The hospital was sustained through the years by public donations, not only of money, but of food, furnishings and linens.

Cavendish Produce donated the two acres of russet potatoes that have already been planted.

Plans are for TAMC employees and their family members to harvest the field by hand in early October. The future of the harvested potatoes involves Northeast Packaging Company.

Bob Umphrey, president of the company, said Monday that a special commemorative five-pound potato bag will be designed to recognize TAMC?s centennial. That process will include an art contest to engage members of the public.

?We are launching an open contest to help us design one side of this special bag,? he explained. Northeast Packaging Company will produce the packaging later this summer in time for the harvesting of the potatoes.

A panel of judges from Northeast Packaging Company, Cavendish and TAMC will review the entries and pick a winner. The selected design will be unveiled at the Maine Potato Blossom Festival on the judges reviewing stand on Saturday, July 21, just before the parade during a new event called the Spuddy Recovery Triathlon organized and co-sponsored by TAMC.

Once the potatoes are harvested and placed in the special commemorative bags, TAMC will send the spuds to statewide elected officials and other dignitaries. U.S. Sen. Susan Collins has agreed to see to it that a bag is delivered to the White House. In addition, TAMC intends to provide commemorative bags of potatoes to attendees at their annual Fall Health Fair, which this year will be themed Harvest, History and Health.

?We are so grateful to these two generous companies for working collaboratively with TAMC and making this unique project possible,? said Lynn Lombard, chairperson of the TAMC Board of Trustees. ?As we continue to mark 100 years of The Aroostook Medical Center, our hope is to engage as many residents as possible in the celebration. Certainly, the TAMC Centennial Potato Plot will be a visible reminder all summer long and into the fall of the significant contributions of both the agricultural community and TAMC to our wonderful quality of life here in The County.?

The design contest is open to all ages and will run through July 12. A special entry form, complete with contest rules and a designated area to match the printable space on the potato bag are available and will be mailed to prospective entrants.

For information on the contest or to have an official entry form mailed, call 768-4044 or email bcaron@tamc.org.

Sandusky ruling a 'lesson' for Penn State football

In this booking photo released early Saturday morning June 23, 2012 by the Centre County Correctional Facility in Bellefonte, Pa., former Penn State University assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky is shown. Sandusky was convicted on Friday, June 22, 2012, of sexually assaulting 10 boys over 15 years Friday, accusations that had sent shock waves through the college campus known as Happy Valley and led to the firing of Penn State's beloved Hall of Fame coach, Joe Paterno.

Former Penn State University assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky is shown in his booking photo.

The jury that convicted former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky on sexual abuse charges late Friday also sent a stinging rebuke to the school?s storied football program, an advocate for victims said.

?The culture of football at Penn State has also been found guilty,? said Robert Hoatson, founder of Road to Recovery, a New Jersey victims? organization.

?Victims of Jerry Sandusky could have been helped and healed much sooner had the aura of a major college sports program not been protected. Children are more important than football, and Penn State has had to learn this the hard way. Hopefully, it has learned its lesson.?

David Clohessy, the executive director of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests, said he was encouraged by the jury?s verdict.

?The lesson here is no matter how prominent or popular or powerful you might be in your community, if you molest kids you will go to jail,? Clohessy said. ?A title or a reputation can?t overcome the courage and strength of abuse victims.

?The whole truth has to emerge for real healing to take place,? Clohessy added. ?Those who ignored and enabled Sandusky?s crimes also have to be held responsible. He cannot be the sole scapegoat for a very unhealthy system that is still likely in place right now.?

Julie Blackman, a social psychologist and the managing director of DOAR Litigation Counseling, said the Penn State jury may make it easier for other victims of sexual abuse to come forward.

?It?s got to be good, for the young men and boys who were the victims, to feel that a jury believed them,? she said.

Dolphins WR Davone Bess thinks the presence of Chad Ochocinco is a good thing: ???You?ve got to be on your toes because that?s what it is, competition. ?We know not everybody?s gonna be in there. ?The more we work the better off we?ll be.?

In 1975, Jets fans chanted for the team to use artist LeRoy Nieman, who died this week at 91. ?(Or maybe they were just saying, ?Show us your ?stache!?)

Pats QB Tom Brady says his wife doesn?t interfere with his choices in hairstyles. ?(Sorry, that was the best I could find on a Saturday morning in late June.)

Single-game tickets to Steelers games went on sale at 10:00 a.m. ET on Saturday. ?(And they likely we sold out by 10:00:01.3246.)

Former Browns QB Bernie Kosar thinks it?s critical for players to keep working out during the lull between the offseason program and training camp.

Every year, plenty of NFL players conduct paid youth football camps; Bengals WR Jordan Shipley?s is free.

Broncos V.P. of football operations John Elway thinks it?s important for players to get away mentally?before training camp, but not physically.

Raiders G.M. Reggie McKenzie told the Rotary Club of Oakland to climb on the bandwagon sooner rather than later: ??Get on board right now because we?re going places as a team.?

The Chargers granted the wish of a 17-year-old leukemia patient, who wanted to hang out at practice with RB Ryan Mathews.

The Eagles added DT Tevita Finau and reached an injury settlement with DE Maurice Fountain.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett isn?t worried about LB Dan Conner learning the defense.

Redskins QB Robert Griffin III apparently fits the Kardashian magnet profile. ?(Sorry, Robert, you?ve got to take the bad with the good.)

Giants CB Prince Amukamara plans to spend the next few weeks working on finally getting his burst back.

Former Bears TE Desmond Clark has become a real estate professional. ?(Given his familiarity with Soldier Field, he should specialize in properties with really crappy lawns.)

Lions OL Jason Fox, a fourth-round pick in 2010, is running out of chances to prove that he can stay healthy at the NFL level;??It?s not just ability, its availability,? coach Jim Schwartz said of Fox.

The front page of Packers? official website has a clock that is counting down the remaining days, hours, minutes, and seconds before the start of the team?s 5K run. ?(Perhaps the anticipation comes from the fact that each age-group winner gets a share of stock*.)

Ted Mondale, Walter?s son, will oversee the construction of the Vikings? new stadium.

Falcons G.M. Thomas Dimitroff has won the PFWA?s Jack Horrigan Award, which recognizes Dimitroff?s extensive availability to the local and national media.

The Saints had 18 undrafted players on the 53-man roster last season; WR Chris Givens hopes to be one of them in 2012.

Panthers QB Cam Newton has a fairly simple outlook on life in the NFL: ??If you?re great at football, they?re giving money away.? ?(That?s very easy for a guy who?s great at football to say.)

OT Mike Ingersoll, cut by the Bucs last month and then by the Pats this week, is back in Tampa.

The Rams have eight players who have played tight end at the college or NFL level.

It?s not clear whether Cardinals LB Clark Haggans will face discipline for his recent DUI incarceration.

The 49ers have four first-round picks at receiver, which raises an obvious question: ?When in the hell did they hire Matt Millen?

With the Seahawks? draft picks in Canton for the rookie symposium, the undrafted free agents have extra chances to take a few of their jobs.

Three US Galaxy S IIIs released, three Galaxy S IIIs rooted

SGSIII root

We've seen Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile release their variant of the Galaxy S III so far, and all three have been rooted. Nobody really expected it to take very long, but it's still nice to know it is done, and the devices are now ready to reach their maximum potential.

Of course, you don't have to root your phone, and we don't blame you if you take a pass. The methods aren't abnormally difficult or different, but they're a bit more complicated than simply clicking a button. Then there's that pesky issue of voiding your warranty to think about. It's something to consider before you jump in. If you're ready to give it a go, the links are below.

BBQ Guru releases the CyberQ remote temperature control, lets you fry those steaks from a distance

Image

Fire. Meat. Beer. The recipe for a barbecue has barely changed since the start of recorded time, but that doesn't mean technology can't get in on the party. BBQ Guru has released the CyberQ WiFi, a wirelessly enabled temperature control that lets you fiddle with your griddle using a mobile device. You can relinquish your spot in charge of the fire but still control how rare your steak will come out (when someone else goes and gets it). Even better, if you nod off during the Superbowl, it'll send you an email alert thanks to its built-in web server. It'll install onto most standard grill / smoker types and will set you back $295 with an additional fan and grill adapter and is available from today.

Six games we want to play on a Surface tablet

6 hrs.

When Microsoft took the wraps off its Surface family of tablets this week, one thing was surprisingly absent: talk about gaming.

It was?surprising in part?because, earlier in the day, rumor had spread far and wide that the new tablets would be called?Xbox?Surface -- and they?would have a gaming slant that incorporated Microsoft's popular game machine in a big way. Clearly, that didn't pan out.

(Msnbc.com is a joint venture of Microsoft and NBC Universal.)

While rumors are often wrong, this lack of gaming news also?was surprising because gaming has been so very important to the tablet business so far. Gaming apps have been the most popular category in Apple's App Store and, despite grumbling from hardcore players, touch screens have wooed players far and wide to the fold.

But perhaps the lack of game-related Surface talk on Monday was most surprising because, frankly, it seems the Surface tablets (especially the Pro model) could make awesome gaming-on-the-go machines ? ones that elbow the iPad right out of the way.

Though many of the specs are not yet available for the two models of Surface tablet and info on apps remains a big question mark, this much we know: both the Surface for Windows RT and?Surface for Windows 8 Pro have USB ports, which surely means that mice and perhaps even Xbox game controllers will be supported. Combine that with the Surface's two keyboard options (complete with directional arrow buttons) and you're well into PC gaming territory.

Meanwhile, the Surface for Windows 8 Pro -- sporting an Intel Core i5, Ivy Bridge-based CPU -- runs Windows 8 natively which could mean PC gaming may have its first true path to a tablet.?No, we probably won't be able to run the newest games at their highest settings, but these portable tablets will likely have enough muscle to offer a solid gaming experience. Meanwhile, the Surface tablets have an HDMI port so you can easily pop what you're seeing on your tablet screen up on your TV screen.?

Let's add it all up: lightweight, touch-screen tablet, mouse, keyboard, Xbox controller. That equals pretty good news for hardcore and casual gamers alike.?So what do we want to play on this machine. Here's a look at a few of the titles that tempt us:

"Skulls of the Shogun"
This forthcoming strategy?game is a good example of the shape Microsoft would like gaming to take in the future. That is, "Skulls of the Shogun" is an indie game being developed not only for the Xbox 360 (downloadable?via?Xbox Live Arcade) but also for?Windows 8 PCs. And as soon as Microsoft revealed its Surface tablets Monday, the developers at 17-Bit revealed they would be making "Skulls" playable on both tablets as well.

Jake Kazdal, creative director ?at17-Bit,?told Wired that the Surface version of the game would come with ?three distinct, discrete control schemes.

"You can play with mouse and keyboard, you can play with iPad-style touch controls or you can plug in a controller," he said.

And that's part of what?makes the Surface tablets sound so enticing -- whether you like to play your games?with a controller, a mouse or by running your fingers across a screen, you can play the games you love the way you want to play them.

"Gears of War:?Judgement"
Mark Rein, vice president and co-founder of Epic Games (the folks behind the Unreal Engine and "Gears of War" franchise) has?made it clear that he thinks?the Surface news is?good news for gamers.

As soon as Microsoft announced the tablets, he tweeted, "Microsoft NAILS IT! Way to go Microsoft! Surface looks AWESOME! Can't wait to get some Unreal Engine games on those babies!"

And he went on to write, "Microsoft: I suppose, being a proper Windows 8 device, that Surface will fully support the Xbox game controller. If so: bravo!

Well then, let's see it Rein. How about you bring "Gears of War: Judgement" to the?Surface Pro, complete with Xbox 360 controller support? Just an idea.

"Halo 4"
Maybe this is just pie-in-the-sky dreaming, but it would be pretty cool if Microsoft's forthcoming?"Halo 4" game?could be played on Microsoft's forthcoming Surface?tablet.

"Halo 4" is, for the time being, is?only being pitched as an Xbox 360 title. But surely fans would like to take Microsoft's signature series?on the go (and be able to play it with an Xbox 360 controller to boot!) But if the full?"Halo 4"?game isn't playable on the Surface Pro, surely Microsoft's recently-revealed Xbox?SmartGlass application will offer plenty of "Halo 4"?"companion content" for the tablets.

"Portal 2"
With the Surface Pro running Windows 8 natively, we're guessing?we'll be able to use the online Steam service to download PC games straight to the tablet. If that's the case, that opens up a world of PC gaming for this light, portable device.

I'd certainly?love to be able to take "Portal 2" on the road. Buy the "Portal 2 - Two?Pac" from Steam?and you and a Surface-owning friend can play the cooperative campaign together on the road. And with a tablet on?you at (nearly) all times, that'll give you plenty of time to explore the 35,000?user-generated "Portal 2" maps that are now available.

"World?of Warcraft"/"Star Wars: The Old Republic"
Pick your poison players.?Whatever your personal massively multiplayer online addition happens to be, surely having the ability to get your fix via an easy-to-carry-PC-like-tablet sounds like good news to you.?

As we've said, some of the internal specs are still unclear and we're still waiting to hear about 3G/4G access, but if the Surface Pro can run "WoW" or "SWTOR," then you can get your MMO fix just about?anywhere, anytime. The question is: Is that a good thing ... or a bad thing?

"Deadlight"
Unlike Nintendo and Sony,?Microsoft has stayed out of the handheld gaming?business. But it seems reasonable that the?Surface tablets could be the Big M's?way of getting into the portable?gaming business (in addition to the game-rich plans they have for Windows Phone 8, of course).?

Since it appears the?Surface slates will support an Xbox controller, one of the things I'd love to see is a way to access the catalog of Xbox Live Arcade games on the tablets. You'll find great games like "Limbo" and "Bastion" there. Meanwhile, the eerie puzzle platformer?"Deadlight" (see the trailer above) is just one of the?intriguing?titles?coming to?Xbox Live Arcade?this summer.

While Sony is busy promoting the cross-game compatibility between its PlayStation Vita handheld and the PlayStation 3, it would be a smart move on Microsoft's part to bring?the massive?Xbox Live Arcade?library to the Surface.?

These are just a very?few of the games that come to mind. What are some of the games you'd like to be able to play on a Surface tablet and why? Please let us know in the comments section.
