The University of Kansas Hospital Authority Board gave formal approval today for its annual contributions to the effort to achieve National Cancer Institute designation.
The contributions include:
??? ?$1 million to support cancer clinical research
??? ?$500,000 to support cancer clinical trials
??? ?$500,000 to support the Cancer Partners Advisory Board
The contributions and commitment come one month before National Cancer Institute officials arrive for their site visit to evaluate The University of Kansas Cancer Center?s readiness to be an NCI designated center.
?It is clear both the clinical and research cancer programs have achieved high marks for their quality.? The clinical program is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the Top 50 in the country.? Dr. Roy Jensen and his colleagues continue to strengthen the research team with leading clinical and basic science researchers.? Regardless of this year?s NCI decision, we have built a world class cancer program here and the Hospital Authority Board is pleased to commit to its bright future,? said Bob Page, president and chief executive officer of The University of Kansas Hospital.
NCI designation will bring early clinical trials to the region, as well as making the university eligible for research projects open only to NCI centers.?
The designation also has historically brought high tech business development to metropolitan areas with NCI designated centers.
