It was interesting to read Philip James letter, August 22, with a totally different proposal regards professional rugby on our Rec and especially from a rugby fan. Thank you Philip, but the question still arises and will continue to do so, is there any space available for a Premiership rugby side in our small and already developed World Heritage city centre? No.
Trying to envisage our city centre development must have meant the more important additions than rugby were pushed to the then perimeter such as Haycombe Cemetery, our two universities, the three MOD 1940s wartime developments, and even Bath Rugby's training ground at Lambridge.
So as far back as 1894, a date I'm constantly reminded of, the club has been seeking help in finding a ground of its own.
Recently Councillor David Dixon, the chairman of The Rec committee, asked that the Bath public contribute their views on this issue for a possible consultation in October, so please, please, citizens, do.
