It was a story that garnered national attention in the days leading up to the 2012 election. In fact the Decision Virginia post that broke the news that Colin Small had been arrested on charges of voter fraud ranks as among the most clicked entries on this blog. Now several months later, and long after the felony charges were dropped, Small is a free man. On Tuesday night, a Judge in a Rockingham County Court called his actions "careless" but not "criminal" and dropped the remaining misdemeanor voter fraud charges. (Small pictured a few months ago by NBC29) The story of his arrest brought out national headlines and was covered by media outlets around the world. It was even broadly connected to voter fraud cases in other states. Tuesday night, only our affiliate from Charlottesville, NBC29 was in the courtroom. It appears the incident was singular in nature, not part of a vast conspiracy. The person at the center of the entire thing, who was vilified by many, just made a stupid mistake. Enough so- that there was not even enough evidence to bring the case to trial. ...
